La Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas entregó los premios Oscar a los mejores trabajos del 2015 durante una ceremonia en el Teatro Dolby de Hollywood con Neil Patrick Harris como anfitrión.
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) fue la gran ganadora de la noche al llevarse el galardón principal de la velada, mientras que su director, Alejandro González Iñárritu, llevó a México el segundo Oscar consecutivo en la categoría de Mejor Director. La cinta acumuló 4 estatuas doradas durante la noche.
El cinematógrafo mexicano Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki ganó el Oscar por segundo año consecutivo tras haber ganado el mismo premio por Gravity el año pasado.
Julianne Moore (Still Alice), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) y Patricia Arquette (Boyhood) triunfaron en sus respectivas categorías como muchos lo había anticipado, mientras que Eddie Redmayne derrotó a Michael Keaton por el Oscar al Mejor Actor.
Aunque solo ganó un Oscar en la categoría de Mejor Canción Original, el filme Selma tuvo uno de los momentos más memorables de la noche mientras John Legend y Common interpretaban el tema “Glory”. Algunos actores como David Oyelowo y Chris Pine no pudieron contener el llanto durante la emotiva presentación.
