En una corta ceremonia en horas de la mañana, los directores J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) y Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity) y el actor Chris Pine (Star Trek) anunciaron las nominaciones a los premios Oscar.
The Grand Budapest Hotel y Birdman lideran las nominaciones con un total de 9 cada una, incluyendo Mejor Película, categoría donde sólo hubo espacio para 8 títulos.
Tal vez la sorpresa más grande de la mañana fue la omisión de The LEGO Movie en la categoría de Mejor Película Animada, situación similar a la de hace unos años con Ben Affleck cuando no consiguió una nominación a pesar de ser uno de los favoritos desde temprano.
